Magical Meditation with Sound

In a world that is scrambling to adjust to a new economic order, the energetic vibrations moving around the planet are just little hectic and chaotic at present. We have been inundated with emails from people asking for help getting grounded and feeling more stable. People are feeling overly sensitive, highly emotional, and very fragile at present.

There are many ways to stabilize yourself magically, and here I offer you one that is in the ebook we co-produced with meditation expert Devta Khalsa, one of our advanced students. This is a meditation on the sound current from an ancient scripture called the Shabd Guru. "Sha" means ego, and "bad" means cut off, so "Shabd" means to be cut off from the individual identity or to be separated from worldly entanglements and distractions. "Guru" is that which transports us from darkness into light, with "Gu" meaning darkness and "Ru" meaning light.

The Sound Meditation
This meditation is used at the beginning of any yoga or healing session. It is for tuning in to the divine teacher within so you can begin your session in a more centered and focused way. It is the Adi Mantra. "Adi" means primal or first, and "mantra" means the creative mental projection using sound. This brings us to a place of spiritual guidance, and sets the space for our healing work. This sound current sets a state of consciousness, and that consciousness becomes your guide. It is the link between you as a finite personality and you as a flow of Divine Consciousness, joining like left and right hands to elevate the experience. This mantra can be chanted for three repetitions at the beginning of any spiritual practice, yoga exercises, time of prayer, or meditation.

Ong Namo, Guroo Dayv Namo
Here's how you do the meditation:

1. Sit comfortably with the left and right palms pressed together at the center of the chest, fingers pointing straight up, with about 15 pounds of pressure on the palms. Press the second joint of the thumbs tightly against the sternum. This is the mudra.

2. Close your eyes and concentrate at the Brow Point, between the eye brows at the root of the nose.

3. Inhale a long deep breath and chant ONG, placing the tongue on the roof of the mouth and feeling the sound resonate in the upper chambers of the sinuses, upper palate inside the mouth, and the forehead. The "ng" sound is emphasized. Be sure the lips are firm while chanting the sound "ong."

4. Hold this sound, feeling the vibration a bit, then chant NAMO, with "nam" being short and holding the "oh" sound.

5. The first sound in the word GUROO (guru) rhymes with "good." The second syllable "roo" has a sound that rhymes with "true" and the R sound is rolled by striking the tongue on the roof of the mouth. The sound GUROO is spoken crisply.

6. Then DAYV is more sustained and NAMO sounds like the previous one.

The entire sequence is meant to be chanted all on one breath, so inhale deeply before you start. If you need to take a short breath after ONG NAMO, keep it short so that the rhythm of the mantra is not changed.

This can simply be repeated three times before beginning any other prayer, meditation, or quiet sitting.

The Science Behind "The Secret"

Some people love the book, "The Secret." Other people hate it. Some people watch the video every single morning. Other people won't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Some people started out watching the video every day, and now won't touch it at all.

I understand all of these reactions. Having read and watched "The Secret," I see how the information contained therein is both insightful and also far too vague to be of use to many people, especially the skeptics. The material presented is familiar ground to people who already believe, and is still "pie in the sky" to people who have never believed. So "The Secret" is very much preaching to the choir.

For those who find this material unbearably vague or totally unbelievable, I suggest a different book: "The Holographic Universe" by Michael Talbot. Talbot ties science with mysticism in this wonderful work, and proposes that the Universe is entirely a hologram. His model encompasses both the new findings of physics and many questions that relate to magic and mind-body connections.

Can You Chop a Salamander's Brain and Still Make it Work?
To back up some of his amazing theories, Talbot cites numerous scientific studies and experiments. The one that so fascinates me is the one where scientists literally removed, sliced-and-diced, and then replaced the brain of a salamander. Amazingly enough, the salamander functioned just fine with his new sliced-and-diced brain, indicating what we have often postulated-that the brain is the analog of the mind, but is not the mind itself. The mind exists somewhere outside the body, yet uses the brain to convey many of its signals and messages.

In any case, the book is a totally worthy read and an excellent source for those who are doubting Thomases. It is chock-full of science and other objective goodies, so read on ... or buy it for your favorite skeptic this holiday season!

Free Magic Spells -- Good, Bad, or Ugly?

As a magician and shaman, the most frequent request I receive is for free magic spells. People ask me to email them a free magic spell for money, health, love, career, success ... you name it, someone has asked for it. Pick something coveted by society, be it winning the lottery or getting a promotion, and people want a free magic spell to manifest it. There are free magic spells out there, a lot of them, but the question is whether free magic spells actually perform as intended.

Are Free Magic Spells Good, Bad, or Ugly?
The answer is that most free magic spells are none of these things: good, bad, or ugly. Most free magic spells are relatively harmless, good for short-term issues (like temporary pain relief), and not that powerful.

Will a free magic spell help you win the lottery? Nope. What about win the love of the person of your dreams? Nope. How about fix your chronic health problems? Not that either.

So what are these kinds of spells useful for? Well, a spell of this kind might lift your energy so you can beat a traffic ticket in court. This kind of spell might also help you clear junky energies out of your house so you can feel more peaceful and content. If you can't sleep at night, a small candle spell can keep nightmares or insomnia at bay. This is the scale at which these kinds of magic spells operate.

When Not to Use a Free Magic Spell
If you want to create a magical effect on a larger scale, such as healing a chronic health condition or making a truly permanent change in your life, consider using something other than a free magic spell. For this kind of change, you'll either need to hire someone to design a spell for you, or you'll need to design and launch your own spell. For a spell to really work, you need to pay something into the process. What do you pay? Sometimes it is money, and more often than not you pay in effort and attention.

Except in very unusual cases, I don't do spells for other people. As with the adage about giving someone a fish or teaching them how to fish, I find most people benefit more in the long run by learning how to design and cast their own spells. Does it take more time? Yes. Does it take more effort? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely.

Designing Your Own Magic Spells
When you create your own spell that is customized to your personal situation, the spell will be far more powerful and effective than using a spell created by another person. Also, every time you put effort into spell work or magical work of any kind, you increase your personal power and magical abilities. That kind of effort accumulates over time until eventually you are a powerful magician ... perhaps without even realizing it.

Learning the Magical Craft of Spells
If learning to be a powerful magician in your own right interests you, beyond just solving a temporary life problem, I suggest you investigate the Basic Magic course. You can sign up for the full 30-week comprehensive course designed to take novices from learning about the basics of the four elements all the way through the Tarot and spell work or break it up into short courses or Levels 1, 2 or 3 of Basic Magic. How Magic Speaks to Us in the Most Unexpected Ways

One of the things I love most about magic is the many and varied ways it shows up in our lives. Many times when I ask for magical help from powers and beings, I am surprised at the ways it shows up in my life.

I also realize that many people miss the signs of magic in their lives because they don't know what to look for. In other words, magic is constantly sending messages to us, but we often overlook these signs and symbols.

To remind myself of these signs and symbols, as well as to help other who are looking for help from magic, I've compiled a list of the various ways magic has come into my life over the years.

This is just a short excerpt, and I hope this helps to open your senses to the many ways magic is speaking to you.

Some of the Ways Magic Speaks to Me
  1. A sentence in a book that I opened to a random page
  2. A check in the mail
  3. A conversation I overheard between two strangers
  4. A raven flying overhead, squawking a message to me
  5. The moral of a movie coinciding with a request for magical help
  6. A business phone call from a stranger, who turns out to be reading the same spiritual book as me
  7. Life-threatening surgery that forever changed my perspective on life
  8. Watching the amazing transformation in a child's behavior in 10 days
  9. A long-time friend leaving my life, opening a new space for ...?
  10. A dream just before awakening
  11. Runes cast at just the right time, showing me the way
  12. Meeting a group of magical practitioners at a mountain-side rest stop, who are meditating in the "cone of silence"
  13. Seeking and finding the Gurdjieff Work
  14. Taking one dose of a flower remedy made from the magical datura plant
  15. Feeling the brush of angel wings while at a rest stop after an extremely long drive
  16. The reincarnation of my dog, Tether, who lived two lifetimes with me
  17. A nasty note from an anonymous person saying, "Learn how to park, idiot!"
  18. The planting and cultivation of my garden each year
  19. A call out of the blue from a long-lost friend
  20. Finding exactly what I want in a thrift store
  21. Getting what I want
  22. Not getting what I want
  23. Realizing that a negative influence in my life was gone ... and that I hadn't even noticed its absence for months
  24. Rain arriving on a parched summer day
  25. A fender-bender that led to a successful business relationship
  26. Sitting with a wish for the longing to cease ... and having it cease
  27. Feeling the joy of not expressing dislike
  28. A misdirected email in my inbox, telling me just what I need to know
  29. Feeling lonely and realizing I asked for sacred space
  30. Having a conversation in which no one understood a word I said
  31. A magical ride on a huge white mule named H.B. (short for HoneyBun) through enchanting Zion National Park [check out the pic of me and H.B. in this post]

Many of these magical messages have meaning only for me and probably don't make sense to you. That's the whole point of this list. Magic always speaks to us in very personal ways -- ways that only make sense to us and have no meaning for anyone else.

As this list also demonstrates, magic sometimes speaks to us through contrast -- through events that we would normally perceive as negative. Our job, as magicians, is to question events that appear negative on the surface, and see whether the event answers some request we have made for magical help. One question to ask is, "What did I get from this event? What did I give up or give away?"

A Magical Challenge
I challenge you to make your own list of events through which magic speaks to you. You may have to dig a little to find these events, but trust me, the process will definitely be educational. Look through past events and see whether you can uncover magical messages or answers to prayer requests.

In the coming days, become more aware of your environment. If a raven passes overhead and squawks, look up the magical message that the raven carries in the Medicine Cards. If you are standing behind an exceptionally rude person at the grocery story checkout, see how the event might relate to the magic you are doing in your life. If nothing is happening in your life, ask yourself the magical meaning of such silence. Most of all, enjoy. That's what magic is for!

Magical Remote Healing: A Fascinating Case Study

I have been practicing magical remote healing for a number of years, and am frequently astounded by the results that are produced. I recently worked on a case that was remarkable in that healing occurred despite the subject's long-standing disbelief in magic, prayer, and healing not assisted by a physician.

Case History Prior to Remote Healing
The man I worked on had suffered from colon cancer. Having undergone chemotherapy and radiation, the man also went in for surgery and had all but one foot of his large intestine removed to excise the cancerous tissue. This left him with very little function in his large intestine (since a healthy large intestine is normally five feet in length).

With the help of my Spirit guides and totems, I began working on this man. He told me that he was a confirmed atheist, and asked whether belief in remote healing or magic was necessary. I told him that while belief in magic was always useful, simply being receptive to the remote healing was all that was necessary. He replied that he would try, but that he was a firm disbeliever.

Magic and Remote Healing Techniques
I used remote healing and magical healing techniques on this man for 26 weeks. Each morning I would invite this man's Spirit to my healing meditation. I examined his large intestine (colon) remotely and confirmed that they had removed all but a short portion of it. I then used a combination of magical and dowsing techniques to "regrow" much of his large intestine. As I worked on him through the weeks, I could see his large intestine gaining in length. Although the techniques are too complex to cover in this short article, you can get a great overview of some of the techniques I used at the Ozark Research Institute website.

The Results of the Remote Healing

While I have seen amazing results in many remote healing cases, what makes this case so remarkable is the documentation of the results by physicians in the western medical tradition. This man went in for additional surgery on his colon. After the surgery, the doctor reported that the man's small intestine had increased its length by three times, and appeared to be performing the functions of the missing portion of his large intestine.

When the man reported these results to me, I asked him whether he felt it was possible that the magic and remote healing work had contributed to this result. His answer? "It's possible."

And indeed it is possible. Self-healing and remote healing are very possible in the world of magic. One thing I've learned in my years of practicing these techniques is that a main factor of success is persistence. If you engage in remote or self-healing, don't be discouraged if results don't show up right away. I worked on the man described in this case for 26 weeks. What gave me the perseverance to do so was my experience that consistently performing the remote healing techniques over a long period of time produces result. I didn't work on this man for long each day -- perhaps 20 minutes -- but I did work on him every day. I am pleased to have been a participant in this man's healing, and I hope this case will inspire you to consider how remote and self-healing might be possible in your life.

Discover More About Self-Healing
If you are strongly interested in remote healing, I suggest you investigate workshops offered by the Ozark Research Institute. I am in no way affiliated with this institute, but I have been a participant in their workshops and have gained hugely by doing so. The work is led by Harold McCoy, a thoroughly practical and engaging man who has much to teach.

In addition, if you are interested in learning a far deeper level of magical and remote healing, check out the comprehensive Basic Magic class, a 32-week telecourse for students ready to dig deep and journey far. The next class starts September 2.

The Magic of Running Water to Remove Negative Emotions

Once upon a time, when I felt quite depressed and "stuck" in my life, a wise shaman and magical practitioner told me to walk in the rain by running water. She told me that the running water would carry away my depression and negative emotions. The rain would bring fresh emotions and insight to me. One rainy day in Boulder, CO I did walk in the rain by a fast-running creek. The combination worked and I felt immediately better: refreshed and positive.

I recently got to try that experience again, in Zion National Park, where we just spent 2 weeks playing in the wonders of nature. Twice we hiked the Narrows (that's me in the picture), a hike that took us up the Virgin River through towering canyon walls. The water was clear, fast, and purifying. We hiked 3 miles upstream, then came 3 miles back downstream. When I emerged from the Narrows, I felt spiritually refreshed, as if I had just done a walking meditation. I wasn't feeling particularly negative before I hiked the Narrows, but even so I felt the magic of running water to refresh and rejuvenate.

What's the Magic of Running Water?
The shaman who gave me the advice was quite accurate from a magical point of view. Magically, the element water represents emotions, which are the language of Spirit. In addition, moving water has the ability to carry the elements air and fire. The element air magically represents thoughts, while fire represents will and action. So, by walking in running water and consciously "letting go" of negative thoughts, tension in the body, and negative emotions, you have a magical outlet for unwanted "gunky" energies.

One magical caveat here is that for this to work, you need to have running water, not standing water. Standing water is stagnant, and therefore doesn't do a great job of carrying negativity away from you. Standing water can receive negative energy from you, but it requires a lot of effort on your part to push that energy into the water.

Using Standing Water to Clear Negative Energies
There is, however, one way you can effortlessly use standing water to magically clear negative energy is to glass of water on your bedside table before you go to bed at night. During the night, the water will absorb any thoughts and emotions your release during the night. When you sleep, you are more open spiritually, which allows the standing water to more easily absorb your negative energies.

When you get up in the morning, dump the water down the drain. Do not drink it, as you will just reabsorb all the energies you released during the night. Many people find that using this technique 21 nights in a row is an effective way to clear negative energies and create sacred space.

A Magical Message from the Raven and an Offer from Me

Do you ever sit outside in the middle of a thunderstorm and feel the absolute magic of the world crackling through the air? I just did. We had a cloudburst here in Colorado and I absolutely reveled in the thunder, lightning, rain, and wind. And then, at the very end of the storm, the Magic happened ...

... a Raven, my animal totem, swooped in and squawked a magical message for me to share with you!

The Magical Messenger
The Raven is one of the keepers of magic in this world, and it had a message for me and you today. It told me that I must share as much magic as I can with as many people as want it.

Get Magic in Your Mailbox Here

As you may know, at the Esoteric School we put out a twice monthly ezine and a twice weekly blog, all filled with magical tips and techniques on how you can use magic to change, improve, transform, and enlighten your life.

Now the Raven demands that I share even more with you ...

Magic in Your Mailbox: A Sneak Peek at Basic Magic
We have a comprehensive 32-week Basic Magic course coming up in September. Prior to the start of this class, we give all the students pre-class magical exercises to prepare them for this rigorous course. These exercises are given exclusively to students who have already signed up and paid for class.

Now, as the Raven has asked, I am giving them to you. I will email these 21 exercises (one per day) to all those who ask. Not only will these exercises give you a sneak peek at what goes on in the Basic Magic course, but they will lay the foundation for you to experience life in a new magical and mystical way.
